What can you buy with $2.50? Coffee at Starbucks? Maybe a fast food meal or a magazine? Did you know that more than 3 billion people, almost half of the world’s population, live on no more than $2.50 a day?
This year, we’ve heard a lot about change. Some even say they want “change we can believe in”. We hope you don’t mind that today’s post is a change from our usual topic. It’s actually much more important than that. Today, more than 10,000 Web sites are participating in Blog Action Day 2008, an initiative for raising awareness about important causes. This year, the cause is of great importance- eliminating poverty- and we know you will be interested in making a difference, too.
Obviously, there are so many things that need change. We have problems in America. We have problems in the world. There are many solutions, but if we only talk about how to fix these problems, will they ever change? The Girl Effect is an initiative that allows us to join together to stimulate change and empower women who are stuck in the vicious cycle of poverty. This is just one initiative for eliminating poverty, and there are many other great initiatives that you can support on sites like Global Giving. Even if you just have $10 to give, or if you have a blog like ours where you can promote a cause, will you please join us in making a difference? Couldn’t we all give up a few dollars for this cause? After all, we are blessed to live on far more than $2.50 a day.
